Reflecting on 2024: A Year of Growth at Campbell Land
As 2024 comes to an end, we’re reflecting on an incredible year filled with growth, learning, and unforgettable experiences at Campbell Land, our farm nestled in rural northern Alberta. This year, we welcomed enthusiastic farm interns and volunteers from around the world who embraced the hands-on nature of life on a Canadian farm.
Highlights from 2024
One of the most exciting parts of the season was our agriculture presentations, which included topics like farming with drones, crop scouting, land mapping, and grain grading. These sessions gave our students and volunteers a chance to dive into the innovative side of farming, blending technology with tradition.
We also introduced a fun new tradition: Christmas in July! Family and friends joined us for a festive camping trip complete with a holiday feast, gift exchange, and plenty of laughter. Our students even got a taste of Canadian culture by learning to play baseball—a great way to foster teamwork and fun.
The year wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the thrilling goose hunts in Alberta, guided by an exceptional team. These outdoor adventures brought our community closer to the land while connecting with nature.
Preparing for the 2025 Farming Season
At Campbell Land, we believe in laying a strong foundation for success. As we prepare for the 2025 farming season, our focus is on:
Crop planning: Deciding what to plant and determining the required inputs for a bountiful harvest.
Efficient seeding: Aiming to plant crops quickly and under optimal conditions to ensure a smooth harvest before frost or snow.
Equipment maintenance: Keeping our machinery in top shape during the off-season in our well-equipped shop.
Crop protection: Actively deterring birds, coyotes, deer, and elk from feasting on our 2024 harvest.
We are actively engaged in marketing and transporting this year's crops while also keeping up with preparations for the future.
